As Josy was squatting in the water to give birth, she was going through all of the normal labor pains and contractions that would be associated with any birth. She shared the video of the delivery on Instagram and showed herself holding the newborn child with the umbilical cord still attached.
The baby’s name is Bodhi Amor Ocean and you can tell how happy Josey was due to the smile on her face. It’s more than a unique scene, it is beautiful and she was happy that he arrived safely.
They made sure that there was no danger of the baby being affected by the high tide. She said: “For weeks, I monitored the tide, and so when the time was right for me to give birth I knew the beach would be safe for us.”
On the day that she gave birth, there were no medical personnel available. Her husband, Benni Cornelius was there to take the video. He also caught the placenta in a sieve.
Due to disappointments in the way previous births were handled medically, they decided to forgo medical care this time.
“My first birth was traumatic in a clinic,” she said. “And my second birth was a home birth but by the third even a midwife in my home was too much.”
Since they didn’t go for any pregnancy appointments as usual, they weren’t even aware of the actual due date. She said: “We just trusted that our baby would make its way.”
